MICROSOFT SURFACE LAPTOP: FIRST REAL LAPTOP FROM MICROSOFT

Hey guys. Finally a laptop form Microsoft is here. We all have been waiting for this since the first Windows. A couple of years ago Microsoft build Surface Pro then Surface book but they were never a real laptop. Surface Book is quite a one but never a complete one.

The story has been changed. Microsoft unveiled the laptop which is just Surface Laptop. The Surface Laptop has the nice high end build quality which you expect from Microsoft. The biggest change in software counterpart with this machine is the Windows 10 S, a new, slightly crippled version of Windows 10 that only supports apps from the Windows Store. Well I feel Windows Store is a disaster. There are few apps from big developers which we use them on daily basis. Even if there are some apps they aren't that much great e.g. twitter, Facebook etc. You can't download any software from web and at the end you only use Microsoft Edge as your browser. Well the good news here is you can freely upgrade to Windows 10 Pro until this year. After that, it will cost you $50.

The build quality is amazing. It is built of nice good looking, solid Aluminum chassis. This is the best Windows laptop in terms of build quality still not better than MacBook. It comes in four gorgeous colour options: Burgundy, Platinum, Cobalt Blue, Graphite Gold. It is the perfect balance of portability and performance. It weighs 2.76 pounds(1.25 kg) to 2.83 pounds(1.28 kg) depends on which model you go for. Microsoft claims to have 14.5 hours of charge but I think with Windows 10 Pro, It will be around 10-11 hours without high intensive task. The display is amazing. It comes in aspect ratio of 3:2, so you have to scroll less to view contents. The display is beautiful, touchscreen, 13.5 inch PixelSense display feature 201 PPI resolution The keyboard is same as we get in Surface Pro typecover. It comes covered in Alcantara fabric which is used in high end sports cars for palm rests. No doubt it looks gorgeous but I am skeptical over its long run. Microsoft has generally targeted students with this laptop.

Moving to the specs, keep in mind this comes doesn't come in the demographic of high end pro users. In the processors it comes with the option of latest 7th generation Kabylake chips from Intel. You can select either Intel core i5 or i7. The base model comes with 4GB RAM but you can bump it to 16GB.
It comes with fast SSD. You can spec from 128Gb to 512GB. The only downside is with graphics. It doesn't come with any discrete graphics. It comes with two integrated graphics option, Intel HD 620(for i5 model) and Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640(for i7 model). The port selection is not very useful. It only comes with single USB 3.0 port and doesn't have any USB Type C. It has mini  DisplayPort, Headset jack and surface connect for charging. The webcam is Windows Hello webcam, so a added security and have 720p HD front facing camera.

Overall the Surface Laptop is a good looking, mid range performance machine. It is priced bit over on what it offers. But at the end, it gives you that premium fell while using it. The Aluminum chassis, Alcantara fabric and that gorgeous display all adds up to this premium machine's build quality. The base model starts at $1000(Rs65,000 approx.) and goes up to $2200(Rs1,42,000 approx.). I don't think base model is good for anyone and next upgrade is $300 more. So If you want something nice and decently powerful then at least go for this upgrade. It would have lot better if base model have started at $850(Rs55000 approx.). I really like this machine. But the big question is "Do you ready to spend such type of money?" If your answer is yes, then this is for you otherwise there are other laptops out which price less than it and performs same. If you have any other questions about it feel free to comment.
