The Hype is Over. OnePlus 5 is here

Wait and Hype is over. The flagship killer is back with a new flagship. OnePlus 5 is officially unveiled. Well, in design it looks like iPhone 7 plus from back, but for sure it is way cheaper than it. The whole focus of OnePlus 5 is in its camera. Its a dual camera setup which is becoming very common among smartphones these days. The one of the biggest reason behind OnePlus success, it is not just a great phone, but very affordable too. Many people are speculatingt that, this year OnePlus 5 is going to get a large price bump. But OnePlus proved everyone wrong. It just starts at $479. These are the highlights of this new flagship. Lets get into details of this new device.

Design

Well OnePlus 3t have a nice design, but still it is not the best. OnePlus has raised bar this time. Frankly, I will say they copied iPhone 7 Plus in design, but with almost bezel less design on the sides. But the good thing is, it looks really good. They have created the Horizon line phenomena along the sides. It is only 7.25 mm thick. The device has unibody anodized Aluminum construction similar to its predecessor. The position of buttons and port is similar to 3t. This year, two colour options are available: Slate Gray and Midnight Black.

Camera

The biggest downside of OnePlus  phones was its camera. It was an decent camera but not up to as likes of iPhone 7, Samsung Galaxy S8, Google Pixel and other top notch smartphones. This time OnePlus team put major effort on their camera. It is now a dual camera setup. One is main lens and other is telephoto lens. Main lens is of 16 MP and Telephoto lens is of 20 MP. They have partnered with Sony and used their IMX350 lens. The new setup brings Portrait Mode(Bokeh Effect similar to DSLR), fast Auto focus, Smart Capture and robust Pro Mode. Portrait Mode provides same blurry effect as we get on DSLR with the help of telephoto lens. OnePlus claims that according to scene, camera can automatically adjust white balance, shutter speed and focus with the help of Smart Capture. This feature will surely take a try to be trusted. They have also improved HDR, shutter speed and Pro mode. Due to of f/1.7 aperture of main lens, Low light photography will also be improved.

Performance

The new OnePlus 5 comes packed with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 Octa Core Processor. It can boost up to 2.45 GHz. It supports fiber like LTE(4G). Adreno 540 GPU will be the new graphics powerhouse and it is 25% more efficient. The most insane spec is RAM, which can be configured up to 8GB. Seriously, in a phone, even my laptop has only 8GB RAM. They have replaced older RAMs with new LPDDR4X standard which is more power efficient. With the help of App priority, they have also increased speed of the device. Storage is upgraded to UFS 2.1 Dual lane storage. It has improved read and write task by 50%. With this you can access files on your device significantly fast. Bluetooth 5.0 is also here. This will increase range and speed of data transfer. They have reduced input lag, so your device will be more responsive.

Battery

The old good Dash Charging is here. With my experience of OnePlus 3t, I can surely say it is really the fastest charging method. The battery of OnePlus 5 is of 3300 mAh. Even the device has become thinner, but battery life is improved by 20%.

Display

Well display is similar old good 1080p full HD, 5 and 1/2 inch display, as we seen on OnePlus 3t. There are two major improvements. One is ambient sensor, seems familiar, yeah same sensor that is available on iPad's display. The display will now be available to change colour according to temperature of light on falling on it. Keep it in mind, this will work with only those apps which you select for reading mode. Another one is able to select three different colour calibration options(standard, sRGB and DCIP3).

Software

It comes packed with latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat topped with Oxygen OS. The whole  OS looks like
inspired with Pixel's launcher. OS looks clean and nicely grouped. One of the biggest new feature is expanded screenshot which allows you to take screenshot of whole page in one single picture. Well there are some nice under the hood features. Undoubtedly, Oxygen OS is one of the best customized Android version.

Configurations

OnePlus 5 supports 34 network bands, so feel free to travel around the world. You don't have to care about network problem. It is a dual SIM phone and comes carrier unlocked. OnePlus 5 is available in two versions. The base model starts at $479. It is configured with 6 GB RAM, 64 GB storage and available only in slate gray colour.

The higher model priced at $539. It comes with whopping 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage and available only in Midnight Black colour. There is early limited offer through which you can order it right now from OnePlus official website. General Sale will start on June, 27.

Conclusion

No doubt OnePlus again does a great job. It might have some features copied from iPhone 7 but this has enhanced device more. There are also some OnePlus own great features. In terms of features, it only lacks dust and waterproof feature. But at this price point it is justified. In return it is giving you a device which is I will say overpowered. Most of the users will never gonna be able to use its complete potential. If you had owned OnePlus 3/3t, then it is also a solid upgrade for you. Customer Support is also one of the best class. This is the company which had made its name by being open and connective to its consumers. This is the company you can trust. Trust is one of the key aspects in any field, even if it is owning about a device. Hope you liked it. If you have any doubt, you can ask in comments.
